The Federal Housing Administration (FHA), one of the departments under Housing & Urban Development (HUD), grants approval of specialized loans for home buyers and insures the lender against financial loss. When there is a foreclosure on an FHA- insured mortgage, HUD becomes the property owner and offers it for sale to recover the loss on the foreclosure claim. This type of property acquisition becomes what is known as a "HUD home."

During the process, many of these homes become available for public purchase, often selling well below their market value, and many qualify for FHA-insured loans and other specialized programs. We know the process of buying a HUD and bank-owned property can be very confusing and frustrating. The goal of this class is to provide some insight into this process which should help home buyers make educated decisions and hopefully give them some patience along the way.
